Girls Friendly Society – Los Angeles invites all girls, ages 5 and up, plus GFS leaders and clergy, to join them for two upcoming events.
Anniversary Service, May 18
The annual GFS Anniversary Service, “Come Unto Christ: There Is No Place Like Home” is a Wizard of Oz-themed celebration planned for Saturday, May 18, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at St. John the Divine Church, 183 E. Bay Street, Costa Mesa 92627. GFS chapters are invited to bring their banners; girls should wear their vests with a white shirt and blue skirt or slacks. Girls will take part in a service project, making pet toys, scarves and blankets and collecting donations for Priceless Pets, a non-profit, no-kill pet rescue program. ‘Splash Bash’ Swim Party, June 22
“Splash Bash,” a summer swim party, will be held on Saturday, June 22, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Pasadena home of Bishop John Harvey Taylor and Canon Kathy O’Connor. The Taylor-O’Connor home, which is the episcopal residence of the diocese, has a pool, tennis court and koi pond in its beautiful gardens.
GFS World President Thembeka Pamba, of south Africa, will attend; those considering sending a GFS member (age 16 and up) to the GFS World Council in South Africa (July 9 – 19, 2020 at ATKV Klein Kariba Resort) may like to meet Pamba in person at this event.
