The Christian Education Office and the Very Rev. Canon James Newman will introduce the LIFE INNOVATIONS Program, utilizing a variety of materials based around the PREPARE/ENRICH inventories. P/E utilizes a 165-item questionnaire that helps the counselor identify areas of strength, growth, and indecision. The P/E inventories focus on pre-marital couples, pre-marital couples with children, long-term cohabiting couples, married couples, and mature couples (pre-marital or marital).

"Make Us One in Christ": A Methodist-Episcopal Clergy Seminar

Sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and the California-Pacific Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. An opportunity for dialogue and updates on the bilateral dalogue toward full communion. Speakers will be Dr. Tom Ferguson, Associate Deputy for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of the Episcopal Church, and the Rev. Dr. Doug Mills, Associate General Secretary for Ecumenical and Interfaith Dialogue of the United Methodist Church. The gathering will conclude with an Interim Eucharistic Liturgy at which Bishop Mary Ann Swenson of the Methodist Church and Bishop Chester Talton of the Diocese of Los Angeles will officiate.

Benefit for 'Free Wheelchair Mission'

Bishop Diocesan J. Jon Bruno will attend the event, at which money will be raised to send 500 wheelchairs to Iraq, where they will transform lives by restoring hope, dignity and independence through the gift of mobility. Bishop Bruno wrote about the ecumenical Free Wheelchair Mission in his column in the Summer 2008 issue of The Episcopal News magazine.

Diocesan Altar Guild Fall Meeting

"Beijing Circles" Workshop

Presented by the Rev. Joanne Leslie and Luisa Del Giudice. "Beijing Circles" refers to the 1995 "Beijing Platform for Action," which addresses issues of equality, development and peace affecting women worldwide. This workshop follows "Listening Globally, Acting Locally: The Beijing Circles Summit, New York, 2008" which took place in May. Beijing Circles bring together women (and men) of faith to educate themselves vis-à-vis the Beijing Platform for Action (and the UN Millennium Goals, which disproportionately affect women globally), and to work for positive change in their own communities. Joanne Leslie, Sc.D., is a former UCLA faculty member in the School of Public Health, an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church, and a member of the national Beijing Circles steering committee. Luisa Del Giudice, Ph.D., is an independent scholar of Ethnology and Oral History, is active in the Episcopal Church, and currently serves on the Social Action Ministry (SAM) of St. Alban's Church.

An event for those affected by justice system. Sponsored by PRISM, the restorative justice program of the Diocese of Los Angeles and hosted by St. Matthew's Church, Pacific Palisades. "This a day of coming together in joy as community for anyone and everyone who has in any way been affected by crime and/or the criminal justice system," says Dennis Gibbs, executive director of PRISM. The day's festivities will include food, swimming, outdoor games, music and more, and will be provided at no cost to families.

Homeowner Alert Seminar

Seminar leader will be Joe Vera, an expert in complex property issues. The seminary will teach homeowners about options they can take when facing delinquencies, foreclosure, tax difficulties, a decline in home value short sales, real estate fraud or bankruptcy.
