AUGUST 3 – 12: Youth Pilgrimage to the Holy LandSponsored by the diocesan youth ministry. Limited to 20 young people ages 14-17. Led by Deb Neal, chair of the Program Group on Youth Ministries, and Chris Tumilty, intern to Bishop Jon Bruno, both of whom were members of a 42-member pilgrimage group that accompanied Bruno to Israel in August 2007. Itinerary will include visits to Bethlehem, the Galilee, and Jerusalem. Five adult chaperones will accompany the young people. Guide will be Iyad Qumri, a Palestinian Episcopalian who has worked with many previous pilgrimage groups from the diocese. The areas of the Holy Land to be visited by the group are very safe, and every precaution will be taken to ensure a safe journey. Cost: $2500 per person (subject to change), which includes airfare, accommodations, meals, and all entry fees. Most nights will be spent at St. George's Cathedral and College in Jerusalem, a short walk from the walls of the Old City. All congregations in the Diocese are welcome to attend. Clergy presenting candidates must submit the names of candidates, and whether they will be confirmed or received, via e-mail to churchoffice@stjohnsla.org no later than Tuesday, October 14. Clergy need to pre-register all candidates so that the Procathedral staff can plan appropriately. Candidates should plan on arriving no later than 9:15 to meet with the bishops. Clergy should bring registers to the ProCathedral office for signatures when they arrive. Clergy are invited to vest in cassock, surplice and white stoles.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2008 9am - 3pm: Make Us One in Christ: The United Methodist Church and the Episcopal ChurchThe United Methodist Church and The Episcopal Church are in a bi-lateral dialogue toward a full communion. This conference for clergy at The Cathedral Center of St. Paul is entitled: “Make Us One in Christ”. Featured presenters Dr. Tom Ferguson, Associate Deputy for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of TEC and the Rev. Dr. Doug Mills, Assistant General Secretary for Ecumenical and Interfaith Relations of the UMC will guide us through the current status of our ongoing dialogue, answer questions and hear concerns.
